Pattern Test for Sew Much Love Patterns – 03

This beautiful pattern that I tested is called the Shelly Chevy Cowl. Sew Much Love Patterns did an awesome job writing it out so that even the newest crocheter can read it and follow along with out any issues! She explains each step in detail and as always has a great abbreviation key at the end of the pattern.
Yes, this pattern uses the shell stitch but don’t you worry if you don’t know how to do one. It’s basically just clusters of double crochet. She calls for a worsted weight yarn and a J10 (6mm) hook, but I am sure that this pattern can easily be whipped up using a different thickness of yarn and a different hook.
I personally feel that this pattern is one that can be used for a long time and for many projects. I don’t think cowls will ever really go out of style. Use a solid yarn or a variegated one to make more colorful. Or maybe you can add some kind of embellishment like a flower, button or bow on it to give it that special touch. The options for this pattern are endless!

I did mine using three different colors, even though the pattern does not call for it. I used Vickie Howell’s Sheep[ish] yarn in Lime[ish], Plum[ish] and Hot Pink[ish].

Pattern test for Sew Much Love Patterns – 02

I working on another super cute pattern test for Sew Much Love Patterns after I finished up the test for the Pencil Scarf. This little cutie is called the Button Girl Camera Giggle. This project was one that I have never done before so I was surprised by how quickly it was finished! I will be honest I was a little nervous about using a hair band with my project. I thought that it would have been a lot harder to get the yarn to work with it, but I quickly learned that it was a piece of cake. The stretch of the hair band allows you to create more room when making the first row of stitches. Another thing that I loved was that she included three different ways to make the eyes! I asked my girls which way I should make them and they picked the buttons. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can imagine so many color combinations to do this cute little camera giggle as well as different ways to create the pigtails (I think the next one I make will have braided pigtails)!

Mystery Create-a-Long hosted by Melody’s Makings

I have recently finished an awesome Mystery Create-a-Long by the wonderful Melody from Melody’s Makings. She has hosted a few Mystery Create-a-Longs. She started off making separate ones for Knitting and Crocheting, but this time she included both versions so that we could all work on it together! I just loved that she did this one this way, I am currently working on teaching myself how to knit so I already have a super cute pattern for when I get the hang of it! ๐Ÿ™‚

She took the patterns that she chose to use for the Create-a-Long and split them up into eight different sections. Each day (or two depending on how much the previous segment had us work up) Melody sent out a section for everyone one to work up. The pattern was not given away until the seventh segment went out.

Here are the segments that I worked up while participating in Melody’s Makingsย  Mystery Create-a-Long.

Textured Hat & Scarf Set

I have been working on this project for awhile because other projects kept coming up, but once I got into it, it really works up fast. Sweet Potato 3 Patterns did an awesome job with the texture on this set, I just LOVE it! Perfect for any little boy (or older one too since the pattern goes from Toddlers to Adults). She created the set with the perfect amount of stripes on it to create the right amount of detail to go with the texture. To work up this pattern you just need to know simple crochet stitches like Single Crochet (sc) and Half Double Crochet (hdc).

I can definitely see myself making more of these sets (especially since the majority of my family lives on the East Coast. hehehe).

Pattern Test for Sew Much Love Patterns – 01

20140207-141902.jpg

I have been working on some fun pattern tests for Sew Much Love Patterns and Hooked Up Crochet Couture. They have been collaborating on some fantastic patterns! The first one that I got the pleasure of working on and that I am going to share with you is the Pencil Scarf. This was a fun pattern to work up and would make a perfect gift for any teacher or lover of pencils! hehehe
I just loved how it has so many details that a real pencil has, right down to the ribbed markings on the metal band that holds the eraser in! The eraser is even made with a bulky yarn which makes it feel more like a soft eraser compared to the worsted weight yarn used for the rest of the pencil. Because of how it was designed you can easily adjust the length of the pencil depending on who you are making it for.
